Lab grown Diamonds

What is Lab Grown Diamonds ?
Lab grown diamonds are produced in controlled environments using advanced technology that mimics the natural processes occurring deep within the Earth. This method yields diamonds of exceptional quality and beauty, offering the same captivating brilliance as mined diamonds without the human and environmental impacts of mining.

Mined vs Lab Diamonds
Lab grown and mined diamonds share identical physical, chemical, and optical properties; their only difference is origin.
Both types are made from pure carbon and sparkle with the same intensity. Unlike diamond simulants such as cubic zirconia, which are made from different materials, lab grown diamonds are virtually indistinguishable from mined diamonds, even to trained gemologists, without specialized equipment to detect subtle differences in trace elements and crystal growth.
Both lab grown and mined diamonds
Are composed of the same mineral, carbon, and share the same “DNA.”
▪ Measure 10 on the Mohs scale of hardness.
▪ Feature unique inclusions and patterns.
▪ Are graded according to the GIA’s 4 Cs: Clarity, Cut, Colour, and Carat.
▪ Come with certification and an inscription on the girdle for identification.
▪ The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has been grading lab diamonds since 2007
Are Lab Grown Diamonds Real?
Absolutely! Lab grown diamonds are as genuine as those mined from the Earth. The key difference lies in their creation: lab diamonds are produced in a laboratory, while mined diamonds are extracted from the Earth’s crust.
In 2018, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) declared that a diamond is a diamond, regardless of its origin.

How Are Lab Grown Diamonds Made?
Lab grown diamonds are created through two primary methods: Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) and High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT). In the CVD process, a diamond seed is exposed to a gas mixture, resulting in the gradual accumulation of carbon atoms to form a flawless crystal structure. The HPHT method simulates the natural conditions found deep within the Earth’s crust, where diamonds naturally form, producing diamonds with exceptional clarity and brilliance.
Both methods result in diamonds that sparkle just like their mined counterparts, as they are made from the same substance: carbon

Certification of Lab Grown diamonds used in Bijoux Ethica Jewels
Every lab grown diamond used in a Bijoux Ethica piece comes with a certificate. Diamonds under 0.30 carats will be certified in-house, while those over 0.30 carats will be certified by an international grading laboratory.
Lab grown diamonds undergo the same stringent grading procedures as mined diamonds. Renowned diamond grading labs such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), International Gemological Institute (IGI), ECL, and GCAL provide grading services specifically for lab grown diamonds.
Certification is essential when purchasing ethical diamonds. It is strongly recommended to only buy diamonds that have been certified, regardless of their origin. The grading process, which assesses the 4Cs (carat weight, cut, colour, and clarity), is crucial for determining the quality and value of a diamond. This ensures that consumers make informed decisions and acquire diamonds that meet their desired specifications.
